How Much Does Industrial Rigging Cost?

October 21, 2026

The short answer: Industrial rigging is priced per project, not from a fixed rate card. What you’ll pay depends on the weight and dimensions of the load, the equipment needed to lift it, site access and conditions, the crew and time involved, and any permits or engineering. To get a firm number, a rigger needs your load details and a look at the site. Seasonal rates may vary.

What goes into a rigging quote?

Rigging is engineered one job at a time. The biggest cost drivers are:

  • Weight & dimensions — how heavy, how tall, and how awkward the load is.
  • Equipment required — the size of crane, forklift, gantry, or jacking system the lift calls for.
  • Site access & conditions — doorways, ceiling heights, floor loading, turns, and how far the load travels.
  • Crew & time — the number of riggers and hours, including night or weekend work to avoid downtime.
  • Rigging & engineering — custom rigging, lift plans, and engineered calculations for critical picks.
  • Permits & escorts — required when a load is over-dimensional or overweight on public roads.
  • Value & risk — high-value or sensitive equipment warrants extra protection and planning.

Why rigging isn’t priced by the pound — or by the hour alone

A two-ton machine threaded through a tight basement with low clearance can cost more to rig than a twenty-ton machine with open dock access. Access, height, and time-sensitivity often matter more than raw weight, which is why experienced riggers quote the whole job, not a single rate.

How to get an accurate rigging quote — fast

Send these and a rigger can turn around a firm quote quickly:

  • Weight and dimensions of each item
  • Photos of the equipment and both the pickup and set locations
  • Origin and destination (and any stairs, docks, or clearances)
  • Your timeline and any downtime constraints
  • Equipment drawings or spec sheets, if you have them

Does rigging cost more than a standard move?

Usually, yes — rigging uses specialized equipment, engineered lift plans, and certified crews. But that’s exactly what protects a six- or seven-figure machine and keeps a production line from sitting idle. The right rig is cheaper than a dropped load or unplanned downtime. Our machinery moving and heavy haul teams handle the move end to end.

Industrial rigging FAQ

How is industrial rigging priced?
Per job. The load, the equipment, site access, crew and time, and any permits all factor in. Seasonal rates may vary.

Can you quote over the phone?
We can often give a ballpark, but a firm quote needs the load details and, for larger jobs, a site visit.

What makes a rigging job more expensive?
Tight access, height, overweight or over-dimensional loads, and tight timelines that require night or weekend work.

Do you handle permits and escorts?
Yes — for over-dimensional and overweight moves we manage the permits and pilot/escort vehicles. See crane & forklift services for operated lifting.

Are you licensed and insured?
Yes — fully licensed and insured, with engineered rigging and certified crews.
